Kuwait Airways is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization.The airline was founded on 16 March 1953 as Kuwait National Airways, following the termination of the operation of Kuwait Airways Corporation by the Government of Kuwait. The airline started operations on 23 March 1954 with two de Havilland Heron aircraft. The airline was initially privately owned but was later nationalized in 1962. Kuwait Airways Corporation was formed in 1962 to manage the airline.In 1963, the airline became a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Kuwait Airways increased its fleet in the 1960s and 1970s with aircraft such as the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8.In the 1980s, Kuwait Airways was severely affected by the Kuwait–Iraq War and was forced to suspend all operations.After the war, Kuwait Airways began the process of rebuilding its fleet and network. It acquired new aircraft such as the Airbus A300 and A310.
